Next free software discussion group is 16 February - Encouraging women
Hi Folks, Based on the recent mailing list discussion, I think we've found a great topic for the first Free Software Melbourne of 2012! -------------------------------------- Melbourne Free Software Interest Group -------------------------------------- Thursday 16 February, 6pm (please arrive 10 mins early) VPAC Head Office Training Room (see website) http://www.freesoftware.asn.au/melb/ Agenda: 1. Encouraging women in the free software community (discussion) We had some useful discussion on diversity at Software Freedom Day this year, so would be great to expand upon this. I'm sure our members attending AdaCamp and linux.conf.au will have plenty of ideas flowing. Look forward to seeing you there! Regards, Ben

I've also updated the website with dates for 2012, so pop those in your diaries! Someone reported timezone problems with the iCal file, so if anyone has an insights on that, please let me know. Cheers, Ben

Yup, that was me. I downloaded this file and imported it from disk into google calendar, and it showed all the meetings at 10am on a friday. I went into calendar settings for that calendar, and set the timezone to casablanca (GMT +0). So now they show up at 6pm, but that doesn't seem like a good set of steps to be following.

Please please please let's get several women to come with their viewpoints and opinions on this. It would be a shame to default to the men who love to hear themselves speak (including myself). I turned up to AdaCamp today, but there were no spots left so I couldn't attend :-( If anyone has some contacts in the group who attended, please encourage them to come and join our Free Software Melbourne meeting in February. -- \ “I got an answering machine for my phone.
